The title is the Arabic word for "assembly". This work is the first example of the Arabic literary genre of the same name in which entertaining anecdotes, often of a picaresque nature and written in rhymed prose, are presented in a narrative (and, in other examples of this genre, dramatic) context which display the author's wit and literary skill
